The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

on December 31, 2015

Anyone that knows me knows that I love Christmas. I love the smells – balsam, peppermint, and sugar cookie. I love the sights – Christmas trees, lights, and stockings hung by the chimney with care. And I LOVE Christmas movies, the cheesier the better. I will always love Christmas Vacation, Elf, and the Santa Clause but there is also a special place in my heart for made-for-tv Hallmark movies. Especially if that movie stars Candace Cameron Bure. I cannot get enough of her during the holidays. Seriously. This year I watched as she, a doctor, unknowingly moved to Santa’s hometown (Christmas Under Wraps), discovered the true meaning of Christmas by visiting a vacation destination dripping with Christmas charm and stopping her father (Alan Thicke!!) from completely transforming it  (Let It Snow), and finding her true love while diverted on her trip from LA to NYC to visit her future in-laws (A Christmas Detour).

It has gotten to the point that I could actually write these stories as I can see the ending coming a mile away but that doesn’t stop me from grabbing a cup of hot cocoa and a blanket and settling in for 2 hours of pure bliss.

Speaking of hot cocoa, one of my favorite parts of our new kitchen is our instant-hot water tap. The water comes out hot enough for a cup of tea or hot chocolate. To celebrate this new addition to the house I created a hot cocoa bar that anyone visiting during the holidays could help themselves to. Truth be told, not one person took me up on the offer but I am going to try it again next year. Isn’t it just so stinkin’ cute? I had peppermint sticks and crumble, marshmallows, chocolate chips and Andes candies.

One of my other loves is wrapping paper. Oh, how I love wrapping paper. I can’t help myself when I see a pattern I love or especially when Target has it 50% off after Christmas. And don’t even get me started on the wrapping paper at Home Goods. Swoon! The paper we used this year was one that picked up at Target and I loved it. I may have just bought two more roles since I was sad we had used it all this year.

Once we put the presents under the tree Ty, of course, needed to come by and inspect every single package 🙂 He was a good boy this year and did not disturb the tree or any packages, which is nothing short of a miracle.

I love putting up the Christmas tree. Unfortunately, I am allergic to Christmas trees so we need to go with artificial. We usually put it up Thanksgiving weekend so we can enjoy it for as long as possible. Truth be told, if we didn’t host Thanksgiving there is a really good chance I would put it up after Halloween! Here is our tree for this year.

And here are a copy of my favorite ornaments

The first two ornaments represent two of my very favorite things – Del’s Lemonade and Autocrat Coffee Syrup. I happen to love moose and owls so they both need to have a place on the tree. And the last two are ornaments from my childhood that borrowed from my parent’s house.

I just love how cozy the tree makes our living room. And speaking of cozy I was so excited to find this pillow at my beloved Home Goods.

At our wedding, we used the phrase “Eat Drink and be Married” throughout the reception. It has now become a thing to find “Eat Drink and be…”to fit the different seasons. We have “Eat Drink and Be Spooky” for Halloween, “Eat Drink and Be Thankful” for Thanksgiving, and the classic “Eat Drink and Be Merry” for Christmas. Imagine my delight when I saw this pillow! I knew it had to make its way home with me!

Hope you enjoyed this post and learning a little more about my favorite time of the year. Leave me a comment and let me know what you love about Christmas!
